Had a great time last Thursday at Tiverton Middle School, where 600 kids read HOUDINI. It was the most organized event I’ve participated in, and the kids asked great questions.
I want to remind everyone that HOUDINI will be out in paperback this summer, along with my new middle-grade novel, THE LIFE AND TIMES OF BENNY ALVAREZ (hardcover). Both books have teacher’s guides that are directed at core curriculum requirements. For these books, I am offering free visits if schools adopt the books, as long as I can drive to the school and get back in a day.
Just received this nice note from the people at TMS:
Hello Everyone,
Tiverton Middle School had a great day yesterday with local author Peter Johnson, who offered a full-day of programming for our students – for FREE!
He spoke to two assemblies of about 300 students each. There was time for a question and answer period that went well beyond the allotted time, but he stayed until every student had a chance to ask their question and have their book signed. Students and faculty are still talking about what a great program it was.
We used his book, The Amazing Adventures of John Smith Jr. AKA Houdini, as the selection for our (first annual) One School, One Book Summer Reading Program.
In addition to this book, which is written for a middle school audience, he has written a number of YA books, which are more appropriate for high school students.
Here is a link to his website/blog:

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about his school visit.
